The most common questions from Backup Samurai users.
Install directly from the Shopify App Store. Click Install, approve the permissions, and you'll land in the Backup Samurai dashboard. Your first backup can be run immediately using the Backup Now button. No configuration is required to get started.
Backup Samurai backs up the following Shopify store data:
Products — all products, variants, images, options, and tags Collections — both manual and smart collections with their rules Themes — all theme files and settings Customers — customer records including addresses and tags Orders — order data including line items and fulfillment status Metafields — custom metafield data on products and other resources (Silver plan and above)
Go to the Backups tab in the app dashboard and find the backup you want to restore from. You can restore:
— A single item (one product, collection, theme file, etc.) by clicking its restore icon
— A full snapshot by clicking Restore All on any backup entry
Restores typically complete within a few seconds for small datasets and a few minutes for large stores. You'll receive an email confirmation when the restore is complete.
On the Free plan, backups are manual only — you trigger them by clicking Backup Now.
On Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Custom plans, you get automatic daily backups at the time you choose in the app settings. You can still trigger a manual backup at any time on all plans.
Backup retention depends on your plan:
Free — 7 days Silver — 30 days Gold — 90 days Platinum & Custom — 1 year (365 days)
Backups older than your plan's retention period are automatically deleted. Upgrading your plan extends retention for all future backups.
Yes. The Free plan is permanently free with no expiry. It includes manual on-demand weekly backups, 1 monthly restore, unlimited storage, and 7-day retention — for stores processing up to 50 orders per month. No credit card is required to use the Free plan.
When you select Silver, Gold, Platinum, or a Custom plan, you get a 7-day free trial. You won't be charged until the trial period ends. You can cancel anytime during the trial at no cost — simply uninstall the app or downgrade to the Free plan before the 7 days are up.
Yes — Google Drive and Dropbox export are available on the Gold plan and above. Once connected, every backup is automatically copied to your chosen cloud storage folder, organised by date. To connect, go to Settings → Cloud Storage in the app dashboard.
If your store processes more orders than your plan's monthly limit, automatic backups will pause until the start of the next billing cycle or until you upgrade your plan. All existing backups remain safe and fully restorable — you won't lose access to your backup history.
All backup data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and transmitted over TLS 1.2+. Your Shopify access tokens are stored encrypted and never logged. Backup data is stored on cloud infrastructure with restricted access — only your authenticated session can access your store's backups. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
You can change your plan at any time from the Billing tab inside the app. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. To cancel entirely, uninstall Backup Samurai from your Shopify admin — your subscription will end at the close of the current billing period.
You can request deletion of all your store's backup data at any time. Simply uninstall Backup Samurai — your data will be automatically deleted within 30 days per our retention policy. For an immediate deletion request, use our Data Deletion Request form or email support@backupsamurai.site with subject line "Data Deletion Request".
